Essence – Wake Up!
I love this polish, its the 3rd essence polish that i’ve tried and I have yet to be disappointed! The formula is fantastic and pretty much opaque in one quote. Wake Up is a dark reddish orange which is perfect for spring and summer (let’s be serious I’ll probably be rocking this in the fall as well). I love the way orange looks against my skintone so this polish is right up my alley
Top: Eggplant Parmesan with a side of garlic-y mushrooms and snowpeas
Bottom: Baked Pears with salted ricotta cheese
My first Lit Geek post! I’ve been on a reading kick this past month or so for some odd reason. Which is good I guess since I’m finally using my kindle a lot more. I came across Tina Fey’s Bossypants while randomly browsing bestseller lists (you know your into reading when you spend more time looking up bestseller lists than any form of real procrastination on the internet).
I really enjoyed this book. Its more of a series of essays rather than a typical biography however the novel does touch on Tina’s childhood, college life, her earlier days at second city as well as her current job as a producer for 30 rock. There are numerous pictures throughout this book detailing the bad haircuts, bad outfits…and just the downright bad! This is one of those books that I actually laughed out loud while reading.
This book is full of zingers and one liners but they don’t feel forced or contrived. One of my favorite parts of the book is when she mentions the tribulations behind planning her daughter Alice’s Peter Pan themed birthday party, apparently you can’t by peter pan plates!
On Wednesday night, Alice and I drew a picture of Peter Pan to hang up at the party. I explained to her the apparent licensing problem with the plates. She was understanding and suggested we relax by pretending to be Wendy and a mermaid for the next sixty-five minutes.
This is a book I tried to read slowly because I wanted to almost savor it…and that worked…kind of. Instead of finishing this in one sitting (which easily can be done) It took me about 2-3 days, success right?
Here’s an interview Tina did on Ellen promoting her book, some of the things she says are direct quotes from the book so if you enjoy this interview its highly likely that you will like bossypants.
Kleancolor – Pastel Orange
I have been wanting a light peach polish for a while and when I saw this one for under $2 I had to give it a buy! I typically leave my polish on for about a week until before I change and I’ve only had this on since Sunday so I can’t comment on the wearability just yet.
This polish is a struggle to say the least. It is my first and will likely be my last Kleancolor polish which is unfortunate because I do really like the color. The formula was thick and took FOREVER to dry, this was the second time I had tried to wear this polish (thankfully this time was a success), the first time it just never tried! I literally painted my nails hours ago and they never completely felt hard to the touch. Another note is that this polish smells HORRIBLE. Now I don’t know anyone who particularly likes the smell of nail polish but this bottle literally smelled like paint. I was painting my nails in my bedroom with both my door and window wide open, however halfway through my manicure I had to go to another room because of the fumes.
After some thinking I decided this needed a quick dry top coat to be somewhat usable (mind you I don’t use a top coat so this required me to purchase one – stay tuned for a review on that in the near future!). I used the new Revlon Colorstay topcoat which seemed to do well but just to be sure I did the ‘dip nails in cold water’ trick. So far so good!
